Kerala Cashew Board Ltd is a statutory body incorporated by the Government of Kerala for sourcing raw cashew nut for the cashew processing industries in the state. The state of Kerala has a long history in cashew processing. The sector employs around three hundred thousand workers and women form about ninety percent of this workforce.
The indigenous production of raw cashew nut totals to only about 83000 tonnes, while the state has a processing capacity of 800,000 tonnes. The state has undertaken many initiatives to address this growing deficit between supply and demand of raw cashew nuts. The Government of Kerala, in association with the Economic diplomacy division of Ministry of External Affairs, hosted a Diplomatic Conclave on Cashew Trade. Diplomats from the 15 cashew growing countries in Africa were part of the effort. The Kerala Cashew Board Ltd is an outcome of these initiatives.
Kerala Cashew board Ltd aims to build a transcontinental value-chain connecting the sellers of raw cashew nut around the world with the processing industries in Kerala. Fostering a better environment will ensure a better times ahead for the workers and farmers in the sector.
